ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always been driven to express my creativity, and my passion for art has accompanied me throughout my life. I was born in the Texas Panhandle and spent most of my youth there. Many of my childhood memories involve some kind of artistic endeavor that often got me into a bit of trouble. Recognizing this, my parents put me in art classes. I continued studying art through college at the University of Texas - Austin, and Texas Tech University, earning a minor in fine art.
I am an adventurer at heart; I thrive on experimenting and exploring various techniques and media. I find the freedom of intuitive abstract expressionism exhilarating. Even when working on conventional canvas, I find my joy in testing boundaries, leaving no creative avenue unexplored. My life experiences have profoundly impacted my art and my insatiable need for creativity. I select materials and "throw" them into the universe, recognizing that only part of the creative process lies within my control.
I feel a partnership with the creative spirit that exists beyond my own being and work in harmony with it. I enter a meditative state of mind where healing and transformation take place. When I am working, I feel no sense of time passing. Something mysterious stirs within me, and I become lost in the work. The painting seems to take on a life of its own.
I live and work in Dallas with my husband and our dog, both of whom sometimes raise their eyebrows but are infinitely supportive of my work. I hope my work brings you a bit of the joy it brings to me.
